The National Seminar By The Management Students Association

Padang-FE UNP. The StudentS Association of Management Study Program (Himpunan Mahasiswa Program Studi Managemen) is a student organization at the Faculty of Economics UNP. As stated in its work program, The HMPS Management is organizing a national seminar this semester which is entitled “The Guide for Entering The Working World”.

The seminar was held on Friday, 5th of May 2016, at the Auditorium Prof. Kamaluddin FE UNP. It was opened formally by the Dean, Prof. Dr. Yunia Wardi, Drs.,M.Si. The seminar was also attended by The Associate Dean on Students Affairs Dr. Efrizal Syofyan, SE., M.Si., Ak., CA., the faculty lecturers, the representations from the faculty’s student associations and this semester’s graduates. The main speaker in the seminar was Drs. Djoko Purwanto, M.B.A., the author of the book “The Guide Entering The Working World” which was published by The Erlangga Publisher. The aim of the seminar is to provide basic knowledge for the faculty’s students and graduates to enter the working world. In his presentation, the speaker emphasized that “jumping in to the working world with bare hands was not exceptional,” Everyone hope to get a decent job that suits his or her interest, but this hope is often not equipped with preparation from the job seekers. Along with that, the increase in global job market competition such as The ASEAN Economic Community (MEA) has caused the increasingly limited job opportunities.

In the seminar, Drs. Djoko Purwanto, M.B.A. noted that successfully enter the working world, it is important for the job seekers to have a preparation in the form of self analysis (The Personal SWOT), the concept of job objective, designing an application letter with the method of attention, interest, desire and action (AIDA), preparing a good resume and portofolio, as well as understanding the concept of psychological evaluation and having a mental and physical preparation for job interviews.

The seminar run lively and a member of HMPS Management entertained the participants with a singing performance. The organizer and sponsors also provided door prizes for the seminar participants. It is hoped that this seminar can help the job seekers to make a good preparation to hunt for a job that suits their interests and expectations. (yfz-sd)
